Important Information

Proposed Closure of Waverton Branch Surgery – Patient Information

We are currently consulting patients on a proposal to close the Waverton branch surgery and expand services at our Tarvin surgery. No final decision has been made at this stage.

Why are these changes being considered?

Waverton has become financially unsustainable since the loss of dispensing services. The building requires significant updates to meet modern clinical standards, and NHS England is requiring a long, inflexible lease. Maintaining safe services across three sites is increasingly challenging, especially during staff illness or absence.

Why move services to Tarvin?

Tarvin is a purpose-built GP surgery and is better placed to offer a wider range of services if open full time. This would improve safety, reliability, and access to care for many of our patients.

What would improve for patients?

If the proposal goes ahead, we expect to:

  • Offer more services in one location

  • Improve appointment availability and reduce cancellations

  • Maintain higher clinical and safety standards

  • Use space more efficiently

  • Direct more resources into frontline patient care

How would changes be introduced?

If approved, clinics would move gradually from Waverton to Tarvin over a six month period to minimise disruption.

Housebound patients in Waverton will continue to receive home visits as they do now.

Who is involved in shaping this proposal?

The Integrated Care Board (ICB) understands the challenges and supports the proposal subject to patient consultation. Our Patient Participation Group (PPG) has been fully informed, and Healthwatch will be closely involved in gathering and representing patient views.

NHS budget

A message from our Patient Participation Group  -

Please support your GP Surgery

As you will be aware in the October budget, the Government announced that employer national insurance contributions would rise to 15%. At the same time the threshold for payment would fall from £9,100 to £5,000.

While the Government have decided to exclude the public sector including the NHS from being affected by these changes, it has indicated that because most GP surgeries operate as a small business, in this instance it does not recognise GP surgeries as part of the NHS and therefore they will be expected to stand the full cost of these tax rises. Unlike other small businesses however, GP surgeries cannot put their prices up to cover this cost or other inflation costs. This could mean having to look at cutting services, staff etc. to stay within budget.

Given that the amount each surgery receives from the Government for each patient to provide the extensive services it does is only £112.50 per year, you can see that they have to manage on a very limited budget and it is unsurprising that over that last decade over 1,000 GP surgeries have closed. This situation needs to be rectified to ensure the stability and future of our precious GP surgeries.

You can help by raising awareness of this situation by contacting your local MP, Aphra Brandreth either by email at:

aphra.brandreth.mp@parliament.uk

or by letter to: Aphra Brandreth MP, House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA

You may wish to copy and paste the above statement as part of your communication and please ensure you include your name, and postal address in the email or the letter.

Thank you, we really appreciate your support and please share this with friends & neighbours!

Building Notice

From the week commencing 19th January 2026, essential repair works will be carried out on the roof of the building.

To ensure the work is undertaken safely and with minimal disruption, the rear entrance off Park Road will be temporarily closed. Access via the footpath to the front entrance will remain available at all times, except on occasional periods when, for safety reasons, the roofing contractors may need to restrict access.

The works are expected to last approximately four weeks, subject to weather conditions. During this period, there may be some noise and minor disruption, including when contacting the Practice by telephone or attending in person.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your patience and understanding.

To improve our service and continue to operate a high standard of care to all our patients, Dr Kent and Partners have made the decision to close the Waverton Branch Dispensary.

The dispensary will close from Monday 16th December 2024.

The Waverton Branch Surgery will operate as normal for GP appointments and there will be no changes to the opening times.

The closure of the Waverton Dispensary means that the patients who collected their items from Waverton will no longer be able to.  All our dispensing patients that will be affected by the closure will be contacted directly so alternative arrangements can be made.

Tarvin and Tarporley Dispensary will remain open.

Due to the closure of the dispensary at Waverton you will no longer be able to order your repeat prescriptions via the following email address:

cmicb-cheshire.wavertonscripts@nhs.net

You will need to order your repeat prescriptions via the below email address or via the NHS APP.

Tarporley:  cmicb-cheshire.tarporleyrepeatscripts@nhs.net

Tarvin: cmicb-cheshire.tarvinscripts@nhs.net

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

From Monday 6th January 2025, Dr Kent & Partners will no longer be accepting telephone prescription requests. This is to help reduce the risk of medication errors and keep the telephone lines free for urgent clinical matters.

For more information on how to order your prescriptions please see the Repeat Prescription section on our website.

Landline phones are switching to digital - Will your telecare alarm work?

If you or someone you know uses a telecare alarm, you must call the landline provider. This will help make sure your alarm keeps working through the switchover, and they can tell you whether you need an upgraded device, new adapter, device battery backup, or a mobile phone backup.
